Preventative Measures
Unfortunately it’s after the fact that we often think of what we could have done different but if you take these steps you are sure to thank me someday but, hopefully, you will never have the need.
Microchips
Have your dog/cat microchipped. With microchip identification, a pet that is lost can be shown the way home. The case for having your pet implanted with a microchip is a strong one, as the statistics show that microchipping is the best, most reliable method of permanently identifying your pet. More than 5,877,300 people have discovered just how true this is, as their pets were returned to them thanks to microchip identification; don’t let your pet become just another statistic.
Scary Times for Pets
Be extra cautious during unusual times such as thunderstorms, fireworks, New Year celebrations, and any kind of storm. A scared pet is even harder to retrieve and your best bet here is prevention. Don’t let your pet out during a rain storm and if it is necessary go out with him/her on a leash. If you look through lost ads you will see many where the pet is lost after a gunshot or during a storm. We can’t predict everything but we can try. It’s so much better than a lost pet.
